Macedonian is a South Slavic language spoken by around three million people, mainly living in the Macedonia and sizeable Macedonian diaspora in Australia, Italy, Germany, Canada and the United States. It is the official language of the Republic of Macedonia, alongside six national minority languages: Albanian, Turkish, Serbian, Romani, Bosnian and Vlach. Macedonian is an official minority language in Albania, Romania and Serbia.
Macedonian is closely related to Bulgarian, with which it has a high degree of mutual intelligibility, and to a lesser extent to Bulgarian.
